JS Industries Xero Gravity 5'10a Carbotune Surfboard
JS Industries Xero Gravity 5'10a Carbotune Surfboard
- 5'10A x 19 1/4 x 2 3/8 (28.6L)
Xero Gravity is the next in line of our favourite fusions ever. Ridden the same dimensions as your Monsta Box, with the same magic rocker, this will be your all-rounder even more geared to high performance surfing than the updated Xero, which in comparison has the slightly flatter Blak Box rocker and a fuller outline. Xero Gravity also features a similar foil to the previous Xero, with foam hidden in the deck, but a slightly pulled down rail that’s fine tuned for manoeuvrability & quick response.
We’ve streamlined the range while keeping all the nuance and specialised qualities you want to have a board model for every type of wave. Want a super groveller? That’s the Sub Xero. A more performance-oriented option to handle flatter conditions? That’s the new Xero, now even closer to your original Blak Box. And for a performance all-rounder – that’s right here, the Xero Gravity.
It’s our direct update on the board that won QS and CT events in the type of conditions we all surf every day. And it was voted the Australian board of the year back-to-back, due to overdelivering in countless sessions for regular surfers in average to pumping waves. If the Monsta Box made you enjoy surfing more, Xero Gravity will send you to the moon.FEATURES
ROCKER
Medium low entry and exit rocker, with a large sweet spot under front foot.
FIN SETUP
The Xero Gravity comes stock as a thruster. Alternative setups are available with custom orders.
GLASSING SPECS
Boards 5'6" - 5'11" glassed standard with 4 oz. deck x 4 oz. bottom. Boards 5'11" - 6'4" glassed 4 x 3 oz. deck and 4 oz. bottom. 6'6 and up glassed standard with 4 x 4 oz deck x 4 oz. bottom (All sizes come standard with Hybrid Fibre tail strips)
RAIL TYPE
The Xero Gravity has medium full rails, the same as the Monsta Box. This forgiving performance based rail shape allows for precision when the right section stands up, yet has enough volume to get you through fat sections or avoid catch in chop.
CONCAVE
Slightly deeper concave than the Monsta Box giving a greater sweet spot, deep throughout for greater lift, suiting smaller / less powerful conditions. Single concave under front foot moves to double concave between the fins. Based on team favourites, JS chose to go back to his “reverse concave” which is deeper under front foot and shallower at each end of the board. We found this to be the fastest of them all, as it creates maximum water flow.
6 YEARS IN THE MAKING.
After six years of research aim and development, our brand-new carbon construction is ready to be released to the world. We’ve used dozens of different layups from our testing grounds at home on the Gold Coast & around Australia, to wave pools and a huge variety of waves throughout North America, Europe, Japan, Morocco and Brazil. CarboTune is what we’ve settled on as the unanimous favourite from JS and the Traktor Team in each of these conditions. The aim was always for endurance and performance unlike anything seen before in surfboard construction – now we’re here.
HOW ARE CARBOTUNE BOARDS CONSTRUCTED?
- It begins with an EPS core. No stringer.
2. Carbon fibre cloth is assembled to wrap the entire exterior, precision engineered using the exact same angle and weight in each layer that we settled on throughout R&D as the ideal combination for durability and flex.
3. Carbon fibre cloth is applied with a vacuum-bagging production technique to ensure consistency in lamination. This technique is something we have developed & refined throughout the manufacturing of our HYFI construction boards since 2015.
4. A new generation clear epoxy resin is used throughout lamination, chosen for its excellent bonding characteristics with carbon fibre. Epoxy adheres to the carbon fibres to improve the composite materials’ strength, durability, and chemical resistance. It also provides high resistance to UV light, preventing discolouration.
5. An automotive clear coat is used to finish each CarboTune board, sealing everything to ensure the cleanest possible watertight surface.
USING CARBON FIBRE IN SURFBOARDS.
Carbon maximizes the weight to stiffness ratio of a surfboard, and provides you with a craft that efficiently turns power into speed. Translated for surfers and shapers - carbon provides an instant transfer of energy. So everything you put into it, CarboTune will give you back. Response will be immediate to any power directed to the board from the surfer or wave. This means that both angles and weight of carbon layups play a huge role in the R&D process and decision making on the boards’ construction. The weight of our actual carbon fibre cloth used is lighter than all other carbon we tested throughout R&D. It’s also lighter than the carbon fibre cloth used in most other surfboard constructions available around the world.
We’ve decided on this exact weight for better flex, while the finished overall weight of the board is still optimised for maximum momentum and projection. We’ve found that this ideal overall weight is close to our pro level team weight in a PU board. For example, a 5’10” / 28.6L CarboTune Xero Gravity is 2.4kg / 5.3lbs, and a PU pro team board at the same dimensions & volume is usually 2.5kg / 5.5lbs.THE BALANCE OF WEIGHT AND DURABILITY TO EQUAL THE PERFORMANCE WE WANT.
The benchmark after making Formula 1 style surfboards for 25 years is all about getting the balance of weight and durability into a board that will perform better than ever. We’re using all of that documented data on what is the optimal weight for each number of litres, for each surfer, and the type of surfing that they do. All of that has gone into making sure these CarboTune boards come out at those ideal specs. It’s a finely tuned balance for weight and durability to equal the performance we want. What the construction comes back to is a relatively simple formula: Weight & Durability = Performance. That’s why it’s taken 6 years – these elements have finally come together with the ideal balance for any surfboard made in CarboTune to both perform and last.
