The Longline Classic was founded by Gisborne locals James Bristow and Kurt Barker, who, after collaborating on major festivals like Bay Dreams and One Love, decided to create an event that reflected their hometown's vibrant culture. The idea took root in 2020, just before the first COVID-19 lockdown, when the duo left their jobs to focus on bringing a music festival to Gisborne
Their vision was to host a boutique festival that celebrated local talent and brought together music lovers from across the country. Despite challenges, including financial strains, the festival quickly gained popularity, becoming a highlight on the regional events calendar
